Recommended Books

(NB I am still working on this site, but I felt it more important to get this information up as soon as possible.  I will "perfect" it later ;-)  )

		Riding Side-saddle		Janet Macdonald	Possibly THE best sidesaddle book. From beginners to advanced. Clothing. Showing. etc Now out of print. I have recently seen this book advertised for £60! (Which I think is a rip off! Book was originally priced @ £6.95)
		The Art of Side-saddle		Rosamund Owen	My favourite side-saddle book.  Covers saddle  history (including a picture of a 17th century saddle.  I found one in a junk shop once ...how I wish I'd bought it!), very good pictures and diagrams.
		The Western Side-saddle		Rhonda Watts	New Edition out soon! I think this is the only Specialist Western Side-saddle book and I would thoroughly recommend it! Written by Rhonda Watts-Hettinger, one of the foremost side-saddle riders in the States.
		Side-Saddle		Doreen Archer Houblon	Published in 1938
		Mrs Houblon's Side-Saddle		Sylvia Stanier	Sylvia Staniers revised version of Doreen Archer Houblon's Side-Saddle book.  I have heard from several ladies that the Houblon original is a far better book and that the "revised" version has a lot of useful information removed! ISBN: 0851314090
		Side-saddle Riding - Notes for Teachers & Pupils		Betty Skelton	A handy little book, written by a lady who taught herself to ride side-saddle and who went on to become one of England's most well known side-saddle riders and instructors. ISBN 0-948253-24-X
		All About Riding Side-Saddle		Patricia Spooner	(I haven't yet seen a copy of this, but having spoken to Patricia, I expect it to be good!) ISBN: 085131743X
		The Saddle of Queens		Lida Fleitmann Bloodgood
		The Horsewoman: A Practical Guide to Side-Saddle Riding		Alice M. Hayes
		To Whom the Godess		Lady Apsley & Diana Sheddon	Published in approx. 1932, this book is one of my favourites with many side-saddle pictures.  I have a Signed copy!
		Cross Saddle and Side Saddle		EVA Christie	Although written in  1938  there are a lot of odd things in this book. Don't think just because it's in print or old that it is correct. Remember, trust your own judgement ;-)
		Fields Elysian		Simon Blow	I love this book! A history of England's hunting society.  It is fascinating reading and has 130 photographs, some of which show ladies hunting side-saddle.   ISBN: 0460045342
